Old Pension Scheme – A big gift to the employees regarding the implementation of old pension

More than 56 lakh employees and pensioners are continuously requesting the government to re-implement the old pension. Updates are coming regarding the implementation of the old pension, which is being said to be seen soon. The old pension has also been implemented by the governments of many states, for which the employees of other states are demanding it, and continuous protests and demonstrations are being carried out by the employees and pensioners. Considering the election issue, the government can also take an important decision on this soon. Some updates are coming out today, let us know about it.

The old pension was stopped on 1 April 2004, after which the problems of the people have increased. If the old pension is started, then the employees will get a lot of relief along with the direct retirement pension.

Difference between the Old and New Pension Schemes

Under the Old Pension Scheme, employees received 50% of their retirement pension. However, since the pension was discontinued, this money has ceased to be received, sparking persistent demands. This decision appears to be in the best interests of employees. It’s worth noting that the government may take a major decision on this issue before the upcoming elections. It’s being reported that employees will receive a significant gift on the auspicious occasion of the New Year. If this pension is implemented, people will have access to support for their old age.

Which states have implemented OPS?

In the last three years, several states have decided to re-implement OPS:

Rajasthan – First reinstated OPS in February 2022.

Chhattisgarh – Implemented the scheme for 300,000 employees in May 2022.

Punjab – Issued the OPS notification in November 2022.

Himachal Pradesh – OPS implemented in April 2023.

Jharkhand – The government has agreed to OPS, and the process is moving forward.

Chandigarh – Announced the implementation of OPS for eligible employees in July 2025.

Why has the demand for OPS increased in Maharashtra?

Employees in Maharashtra say that NPS does not guarantee their future because it is dependent on the stock market. On the other hand, OPS provides a fixed pension, ensuring life security after retirement. This is why the issue has once again become a hot topic in the state.

What could happen next?

Pressure regarding OPS is steadily increasing in Maharashtra. Employee organizations are pressuring the government to take swift action. In the coming months, this issue could become a major agenda not only for employees but also for state politics. Whether OPS will return or not will depend on the state government’s priorities in the future.
